Driving Day Two

Mon. 19th October ’26

Pedestrian bridge at FrederictonWe try to take in some of the places we are blasting through and so after a quick coffee in Fredericton we go for a short walk around town. I had spotted a redundant railway bridge across the river which is now for pedestrians only. Just the sort of thing we like to photograph. The weather has improved dramatically from a few days ago and we have bright sunshine. Neither of the two churches we pass are worth a photo. We are just so spoilt in Europe with far more interesting church buildings.

OGrand Falls - weedy falls more like!ur route is taking us the Canadian side of the border with US as we really did not want to get the necessary documents for one or two days in the US. This is a Canadian trip after all. Our route therefore takes us through the town called Grand Falls. With a name like that we just had to make it our lunch stop with a detour to see the falls, which is right in the centre of town. That should have given us a clue that the falls would not be picturesque and the zip wire across the river was right out (fortunately closed for the season).

Sunset at the quay at Riviere du LoupWe made good time for the drive and as we settled into our hotel room we saw a ferry coming into dock in town. We are now back in Riviére-du-Loup, which we passed through on “Change of Plan” day when our ferry from Tadoussac to Trois-Pistoles was cancelled. Since arriving in East Canada we have discovered there was yet another ferry crossing the St Lawrence River which goes from St Simeon to Riviére-du-Loup and to actually see this ferry just rubbed in our bad luck with the weather cancelling our ferry. We headed there for some sunset photography, which was OK but not as good as other places on this trip. At least we tried.
